Frequently Asked Questions

Q?

Is there anything else to do in Charlevoix if we wanted to stay around the area?

A.

Absolutely. Charlevoix is a hidden gem in Northern Michigan. You can find more information about Local Amenities & Lodging or Local Attractions here on What’s Close Page.

Q?

Can I just show up at the “Go Sailing” Kiosk and get on the boat before it leaves?

A.

Yes. Seats on the Sunshine II are first come, first serve when showing up at the Kiosk. Seats do fill up quickly so you can reserve your spot via our Reserve a Seat Form or you can call us as 231-547-0266.

Q?

What should I bring on the sailing trip?

A.

Most passengers that board the Sunshine II have never been on a sailboat before. We have plenty of storage space so be sure to come over prepared, rather than under prepared. For a full list of items to bring, visit our What to Bring Page here.

Q?

How rough is the boat ride?

A.

The boat ride varies due to the conditions of the water and speed of the wind. However, a catamaran style sail boat, like the Sunshine II, will ride much smoother due it’s two hull design. If you commonly get motion sickness we recommend taking Dramamine or reading through our what to expect list so you will be prepared for your trip.

Q?

Can I book a private sail?

A.

Yes, you can book the Sunshine II for just about any event. There is no minimum amount for passengers, but 29 is the maximum. For more information about groups, check out our Group Sailing Trips.

Q?

Can I steer the boat?

A.

Yes, if the conditions are favorable. You will also be under the supervision of Captain Josh or Captain Gary and after being given a quick lesson.

Q?

Is alcohol or food allowed?

A.

Yes, We provide ice cold pop or water and you are welcome to bring any alcohol or food on board. We can also help you plan or organize catering or barbeque details before or after your cruise.

Q?

Are children allowed on tours?

A.

Yes, our daily tours are family friendly and safe. We also highly recommend that you take a look at our list of things to bring and what to expect, so you and your children will be prepared and can fully enjoy the Sunshine Charters experience.
